Physical Education and Sports

At St Lawrence, we are committed to providing a well-rounded and engaging physical education experience for all our students. We understand the importance of developing both physical and social skills through sports, and we offer a variety of opportunities to ensure that every child can be active, learn new skills, and enjoy sports throughout the school year.

Core Physical Education Program

Every student, regardless of their year group, enjoys at least two hours of high-quality PE lessons each week. These lessons are delivered by Superstar Sports coaches, who bring expert knowledge and enthusiasm to the sessions. Our PE program is also supported by our dedicated teaching assistants, including a specialist sports teaching assistant, ensuring that every child receives the support they need to thrive in their physical education journey.

A key part of our curriculum is swimming. All children in Year 3 are given the opportunity to swim as part of the program. From Year 3 onwards, children will continue to attend swimming lessons annually, until they can swim the required 25 meters. This ensures that every child can develop important swimming skills, which are crucial for their safety and confidence in the water.

Additional Sports Coaching and Support

We are proud to offer additional coaching and sporting experiences to enrich our students' PE journey. In partnership with Coventry Rugby, our students have the chance to access professional rugby coaching on a rotational basis throughout the year. These sessions provide children with the opportunity to learn and develop their rugby skills in a structured and fun environment.

Our sports coaches also play an active role beyond formal PE lessons. They assist in running sports clubs at lunchtime and are often seen supporting games and activities on the playground. Their presence ensures that every child has the guidance and support to be active during both structured lessons and informal play.

Extracurricular Sports Activities

We believe in offering our students a wide range of extracurricular sports activities to help them develop new skills, stay active, and have fun outside regular lessons. Our current extracurricular sports clubs include:

  • Speed Stacking
  • Nerf Mayhem
  • Football (for KS1 and KS2)
  • Dance
  • Rugby (for KS2)
  • Archery
  • Netball
  • Basketball

These clubs are designed to cater to a wide range of interests and abilities, providing a great way for children to try out new sports and activities, form friendships, and stay engaged with physical activity throughout the year. We encourage all students to get involved and explore the activities that excite them the most!

At our school, we are dedicated to fostering a love of sport and physical activity, building skills, confidence, and teamwork, while ensuring that every child can enjoy the benefits of being active.
